Of all of Australia’s major breweries only Coopers remains Australian owned. Coles and Woolworths, who together control almost 60 per cent of alcohol retail in Australia, have also introduced a number of ‘phantom’ brand beers.

Miller continued to brew the full calorie Meister Brau, but it didn’t enjoy as much success as the light variety (possibly because of its notorious taste). In 2005, Miller phased out the Meister Brau line due to sagging sales. “Meister Brau was a regional brand,” Schultz said.
Newstead is 100% independent and family owned. Peter and Heather Howes (grouse parents, see above) provided 100% of the financial support, as well as leasing to Newstead the two properties it now resides in. Newstead is owned by four people. Peter, Heather, Michael Conrad and myself.

Schlitz closed its Milwaukee brewery in 1981. It would eventually be redeveloped into an office park known as “Schlitz Park.” In 1982, the company was purchased by the Stroh Brewery Company and later, in 1999, sold to the Pabst Brewing Company, which produces the Schlitz brand today.

Pabst Brewing Company
Ballantine and Sons Brewing Company was an American brewery founded in 1840, making Ballantine one of the oldest brands of beer in the United States. At its peak, it was the 3rd largest brewer in the US. The brand is currently owned and operated by Pabst Brewing Company.
Hamm’s production was moved to Milwaukee, and the St. Paul facility produced Stroh’s until 1997, when it was closed for good. In 1999, Pabst transferred the Hamm’s trademark to Miller, who has continued to market the beer through the 2010s.
