The director was Richard Thorpe, who had previously directed Elvis in ‘Jailhouse Rock’. Derbez plays the role of adult Maximo in the series and Enrique Arrizon portrays the younger version which transports the viewer to the ’80s. Although Acapulco is set in the Mexican city in the state of Guerrero, it was shot in the popular vacation spot Puerto Vallarta.
His real-life son, Vadhir Derbez, plays the 21-year-old version of that Maximo. In the series, the older Derbez’s older Maximo is a billionaire and Younger Maximo (Enrique Arrizon) is the newest employee of the local Acapulco “it” resort.
