Canoe/Kayaking. Turquoise Lake offers endless hours to recreation and sliding a canoe in at the Tabor Boat Ramp is one of the best. … The Arkansas River offers over 100 miles of whitewater rafting & kayaking.
Nearly all campsites are wooded, and many have access to Turquoise Lake. Due to the high altitude and chilly summer nights, swimming is hardly an option, although a few hardy souls do engage in water skiing while wearing insulating wetsuits.
With seven trains a day running out of Denver at the height of its popularity, the Georgetown Loop was Colorado’s scenic “must see” and a deal at only $3 round-trip.
The loop was created to connect the two mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume. They lie 2 miles apart in a narrow mountain canyon. The train originally started in Denver and passed through Clear Creek Canyon (present day Highway 6) up to Idaho Springs. It then continued and ended just west of Silver Plume.
