1942 SEASON
Wrigley donated the necessary materials to the war effort. Because baseball ended up booming after the war, Wrigley (the original Wrigley’s son) was able to hold off on the issue. One of his long-stated reasons for not installing lights is that it would upset the neighborhood.
Wrigleyville has changed quite a bit over the years, and residential parking permits have made the Friday night ban unnecessary. Still, the rule has stood in place for 33 years, much to the dismay of the Cubs, who can charge more money for advertising on night games on their Marquee Sports Network.
The Cubs are currently allowed up to 43 night games annually, but have to get City Council approval for any Friday night games.
Baseball changed dramatically in 1935 with the introduction of Major League Baseball under the lights. President Franklin Roosevelt threw the light switch to the historic first Major League night game from the White House six hundred miles away from Crosley Field.

Baseball realized in 1971 that most people were watching the World Series on TV, but it’s hard to watch TV at school or work. That first night game – played by the Pittsburgh Pirates against the Baltimore Orioles – was so popular that by 1973 all World Series weekday games were played at night.
Crosley Field
On May 24, 1935 Crosley Field became the first professional baseball stadium with lights when President Franklin Roosevelt flipped the switch from Washington, DC. The Reds played eight home, night games against each National League team and saw their attendance increase by 100 percent.
Fenway Park
Fenway Park Boston’s professional baseball stadium is home to the infamous Green Monster. That’s the nickname for the nearly 40-foot-high left-field wall in Fenway Park, the oldest major league ballpark still in use by a professional team. The Boston Red Sox have called Fenway home since it opened in 1912.
8, 1988, which is the numerically satisfying 8/8/88, the Cubs only played games in the sunlight — that’s 74 years of day games. It was a big day when the lights turned on at Wrigley Field — Bill Murray was there to celebrate the momentous event. That evening, the Cubs were playing against the Philadelphia Phillies.
But why do the Chicago Cubs play so many day baseball games? We found the answer to be rather surprising. The Chicago Cubs, Chicago City Council and the Wrigleyville neighborhood have an agreement that the Cubs will only play so many night games each season because night games are a burden on the neighborhood.
There are no games scheduled for this date.
The History of Baseball in Indiana
Indiana is the home of the first major league baseball game, back in 1871. The game was played on May 4, 1871 between the Cleveland Forest Cities and the Ft. Wayne Kekiongas.
Meanwhile, StubHub said on Monday that it had over 4,250 tickets for Game 1 available, with the lowest priced ticket at $455 and the average ticket price at $1,120. Fans can not purchase tickets for the game at Minute Maid Park.

Women were not considered fans in professional baseball’s early years, which resulted in the creation of Ladies Days, a tradition that set the stage for females to build a connection to the sport. The St. Louis Browns (present-day Cardinals) were one of the first teams to institute Ladies Days.
This year’s regular season had 34 percent of its games played during the day and 66 percent at night. There has been a ten percent change in favor of night games over the past ten years.
In 2014 the White Sox reclaimed the Crosstown Cup after winning the first three games of their four-game series. They won the first two games at Wrigley Field 3–1 in 12 and 4–1 respectively, came back to U.S. Cellular Field to win 8–3 before getting blown out in the final game 12–5.

Cincinnati’s
On May 24, 1935, the first night game in major league baseball history was played at Cincinnati’s Crosley Field, where the home team defeated the Phillies, 2-1. At 8:30 p.m., President Franklin D. Roosevelt threw a ceremonial switch at the White House in Washington, and the lights went on in Cincinnati.
