While saving Denise from walkers, the Wolf is shot by Carol and killed by walkers. Sam and Jessie are killed by walkers while moving through the herd. In response, Ron tries to shoot Rick, but is killed by Michonne; Carl is shot in the eye as the handgun discharges.
Rick and Michonne go outside to deal with their grief as Carl shoots himself in the head with the same gun he has had since he was a child. Rick and Michonne then bury his body next to the church. The shocking news of his death reaches the communities and even Negan.

This episode marks the final appearance of Alexandra Breckenridge as Jessie Anderson, as she is killed off along with her two sons, Ron (Austin Abrams) and Sam (Major Dodson). Their deaths were one of the many comic book moments adapted into this episode.
Carl returns in Episode 1114, along with older brother Lip, after being contacted about their “dead brother”.
Carl’s a biological dad to two babies. This is played out in season 9, but it’s only now that Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) learns Frank (William H. Macey) and Ingrid used Carl’s sperm without his knowledge in order to have kids.

His age hasn’t been updated since Season 4 and this seems to suggest that Carl is that age. That seems about right, 15-16 years of age. The end of Season 4 led directly into Season 5, and that led directly into Season 6, which as we know led directly into Season 7… and again for Season 8!

After the Anderson family died and the walkers came in killing a lot of people, she hit a breaking point. She did not want to be that housewife switch anymore and she couldn’t be automatic survival mode around the people of Alexandrea. She decided to leave all of it so she could deal with herself.
Carl being written out caused a huge stir at the time, as fans were furious that Chandler Riggs had been given the boot. And he hasn’t returned to the franchise ever since, even though there was the perfect opportunity to get him back for a hallucinatory cameo in Andrew Lincoln’s last episode in season 9.
