Good morning everyone present here. Distinguished dignitaries, esteemed judges, respected teachers, and my dear friends, I feel exceedingly proud and privileged to have got an opportunity to recite a poem. The title of the poem is (Say the title); it has been written/composed/penned by (Poet’s name).
Elements: Poetry. As with narrative, there are “elements” of poetry that we can focus on to enrich our understanding of a particular poem or group of poems. These elements may include, voice, diction, imagery, figures of speech, symbolism and allegory, syntax, sound, rhythm and meter, and structure.
Poetry writing allows one to express themselves through the written word. This is a great way to release pent up emotion, exercise creativity, and share thoughts and ideas with other people. Even if you’ve never written creatively before, you can enjoy the feeling of writing about your life.
Speaking poetically refers to speaking in a way that is like poetry or like a poet would speak, such as using clever turns of phrase and metaphors. If someone uses metaphors and flowery descriptions, such as, “Her eyes were like chains that held me captive” you could say they were speaking poetically.
Strong, accurate, interesting words, well-placed, make the reader feel the writer’s emotion and intentions. Choosing the right words—for their meaning, their connotations, their sounds, even the look of them, makes a poem memorable. The words become guides to the feelings that lie between the lines.
Read the poem slowly at least 3 times.
Focus on the way the poem sounds the first time you read it, then note the images in the poem the second time, and then focus on the narrative the third time. On each reading, go deeper into the poem to help you determine its meaning.
Although poetry is a form of self-expression that knows no bounds, it can be safely divided into three main genres: lyric poetry, narrative poetry and dramatic poetry.

Even for a poet as intellectual as Robert Frost, poetry, at its base, is emotion. He also said, ‘Poetry begins in delight and ends in wisdom. ‘ In other words, emotion is the basis of poetry and the deep hidden insights that your teachers desire from you – those are the end products.
The four-line stanza gives a poet room to convey a full thought, or two, in one verse. While a couplet’s brevity forces a limited use of words, a quatrain allows for a fuller expression of an idea. Rhyme scheme possibilities.
Address your audience immediately and on a personal level when you stand in front of them. Begin with the story or scenario that you have made notes about, and try to tell it in the most compressed and precise way possible so that they understand the ground situation you are working from in your piece or argument.

Here are some common flaws in poetry: Imperfect or erratic rhymes. A good poem, if it rhymes, should either use perfect rhymes throughout or use a clear and appealing pattern of near rhymes. Bad poems try for perfect rhymes and fail.
