Biscotti 06 Sep 2014. Remember there’s a couple different types of 20 gallon tanks: Regular 20G, 20G Long, and 20G High. The one that meets the 360 square inch is the 20 gallon LONG tank (30″ x 12″ x 12″).
Multiply its width by its height by its depth. The result is the cubic feet of space the tank holds. Multiply the result by 7.48. The answer is the number of gallons of water the tank holds.

After all, they are smaller and cheaper! But a 10 gallon tank for hamster of any breed is I’m afraid going to be too small in most cases. Some hamsters are very sedentary or shy, but most like to explore, play and run around. A hamster 10 gallon tank simply doesn’t give them enough area to do so.
|Tank Diameter||Volume (U.S. Gallons per foot)|
Determining the amount of water in your aquarium is as simple as knowing that volume equals length times width times height and that 1 cubic inch of water is equivalent to 0.004329 gallons. Therefore, the volume of your tank in gallons of water = length x width x height (measured in inches) x 0.004329.
A 12x12x18” terrarium is equal to precisely 11.22 US gallons
A terrarium with these measurements is best suited for arboreal species (tree or shrub dwelling animals).

EDIT #2 : so i decided to ask my dad and he has confirmed it being a 75 gallon tank (: yay!! That comes out to being 864 square inches which is well above the minimum requirements! YAAAAA!!!! For the future, if you want to calculate square inches, multiply the length by the width and that’s how many it is.
How much substrate do you need? The general recommendation is at least 3 inches. Not only will this amount be pleasing to look at, but it is also deep enough to allow plants to root without floating away.
In most cases, a 2-inch layer of gravel will look rather thin in a 75-gallon tank. Most people with large tanks prefer to have a substrate layer that is 3-4 inches deep to fill out the tank. Which means you may need upwards of 224 pounds of gravel to get the look you desire in a 75 gallon aquarium.
The international standard symbol for inch is in (see ISO 31-1, Annex A) but traditionally the inch is denoted by a double prime, which is often approximated by double quotes, and the foot by a prime, which is often approximated by an apostrophe. Many hamsters are kept in glass tanks with a secure wire mesh top. A glass tank may better protect your hamster from other pets and small children. … Glass tanks can heat up quickly and cause your hamster distress. The tank should always be kept in a well-ventilated but draft-free location.
There are Syrian hamsters that would do fine in a 40 gallon tank, as long as it was filled with enriching activities, but there are also a lot of Syrian hamsters that still get frustrated in tanks of that size and exhibit stress related behaviors (like obsessively digging at corners or frantically trying to escape).
